#3 Poems
A little time to breathe
Hello! It’s that Thursday again.
Aside from the end-all power of violence, I’m learning to understand the power in words! There are just so many of them. I love to journal, write streams of consciousness and dialogue, but poetry has always mystified me. I’ve found age has made it harder for me to access that emotional candor often found in the poetry we yearn for. I’m also a little scared of the pretension, but you’ll see it’s still a learning process. I wrote these all in the last few months, so I’ll let them speak for themselves.
In terms of structure: 1. a set of haikus, 2. a couple limericks, and 3. a free verse
ONE - Doll
Try not to be grim
Can we just play, spin, and burn
Not the first, nor last
You are heavy to carry
With the whole weight of the world
Look a bird, don’t trip
How hard can it hurt
Already turned into dough
Sit still, look at me
With both eyes, ears, knees
Center your attention here
I promise reprieve
TWO - 1720
When Judy walked down to the river,
the old man saw her shiver,
without a pause, he leapt out of the gauze
and asked her to deliver.
There’s a line in a film I once saw,
That talks of action, a knight, and bats with a small paw.
The other day, Small, scared, and gay
Learned we were both raised by the same quiet law.
THREE - Focus
The focus has cleared.
I’ve never thought of my tendency to zoom in as an asset.
But now it’s reciprocated, I meet other people on the same level.
See the opportunity, and let the kiss lead you.
Tzt
Dizzying, sometimes. If you let it.
The space is humming, my eyes are adjusting, and I’m less frightened than before.
I’m not alone here anymore.
Hope these made you smile and that you are drinking your favorite morning beverage.
An fyi - I’m taking the month of December off and will be returning to Feast in the new year! January 5th to be exact. I’m currently in the process of moving, my birthday is in a couple weeks, and the holiday season is for hugging your loved ones. So just trying to protect us all from half-assed thoughts.
If you are in LA on the 17th, we will be celebrating the last year of my twenties and many new beginnings, so please hit me up if you would like to salut!
Have a fabulous December and I love you very much,
